PsyPact & Teleassessment in South Carolina

Dr. Steele‑Wren is authorized to offer teleassessment services across participating PsyPact states, including South Carolina, making high‑quality evaluation even more accessible.

Why Remote Assessment?

Remote and virtual psychological assessment is supported by a growing body of research demonstrating that many cognitive, psychological, and validity measures administered remotely show strong equivalence with traditional in‑person testing when appropriate procedures are followed. Advances in telepsychology and test adaptation have allowed assessments to be conducted reliably outside of a clinic setting without compromising psychometric rigor.

In some cases, remote assessment may offer meaningful advantages over in‑office testing. Completing assessments in a familiar environment can reduce situational anxiety, travel fatigue, and performance pressure that may arise in unfamiliar clinical settings. Traditional office environments introduce variables that cannot always be controlled, such as ambient noise, interruptions, lighting differences, or heightened self‑consciousness associated with being observed in a formal setting. These factors can influence test performance in ways that are unrelated to the constructs being measured.

From the perspective of ecological validity, psychological research has long recognized that performance observed in highly controlled clinical environments does not always generalize to everyday functioning. Assessing individuals in their usual environment may, in some cases, provide data that more closely reflects how cognitive, emotional, and behavioral abilities operate in real‑world conditions. This context can be particularly relevant when the referral question involves functional capacity, daily performance, or symptom expression outside of a clinical office.

Importantly, remote assessment is not applied indiscriminately. Measures are selected based on available evidence supporting their reliability and validity in telehealth contexts, and clinical judgment is used to determine when remote assessment is appropriate and when in‑person evaluation is indicated. When thoughtfully implemented, remote and virtual assessment can be both scientifically sound and clinically informative.
